1905 Dodge County Directory

Father of Stella Haukom:
HAUKOM, LAURIS E., farmer, section 17, Vernon Township, is a native of the farm on which he resides, and was born Feb. 23, 1870. He was reared on the farm and educated in the district schools. In 1896 our subject was united in marriage to Lena S. Berge, daughter of Svend and Dorthea (Qualle) Berge, of this township, and to this union four children have been born and survive as follows: Elmer S., Archie D., Dora B. and Stella E. Mr. Haukom is a member of the Republican party, and has been prominent in the affairs of his township now holding the positions of township supervisor and vice president of the Farmers' Interurban Telephone company. The family are members of te Lutheran Church. Our subject is a son of one of the earliest pioneer settlers of the township. His active, industrious life has made him a man of worth to the community.

Maternal Grandfather of Stella Haukom:
BERGE, SVEND L., retired farmer, Vernon township, came to this country in 1859 and located to Vernon township, section 8. He was born in Hardanger, Norway, May 31, 1831, to Lars and Guro (Nelson) Berge, who were farmers by occupation. His youth was spent upon the farm and in the common school of Norway. He married Dorthea Qualle in 1859 and their home has been brightened by the birth of ten children, seven of whom survive. Mr. Berge is a Republican and affiliates with the Lutheran Church. As a public official he has served in the office of supervisor of Vernon township, and was a member of the school board. He is the owner of 270 acres of farmland, which is improved and has all the necessary buildings.
