OBITUARY: Dorthe Berge (Dorthe Ellendsdatter Quale)

Birth: Dec. 22, 1839, Norway
Death: Jan. 2, 1905, Vernon, Dodge County, Minnesota

Mrs. Svend Berge, who has been ill for several months, suffering from cancer of the stomach, died Monday morning at 2:30 a.m.
Mrs. Berge was over 65 years of age, having been born in Sogn, Sogndal, Norway, in the year 1839, 22 Dec., came with her parents, Ellend Trondsen & Durdei Baardsdtr. Qvale, at the age of 6 years, to the USA, and resided near Cambridge, WI. In 1859 she wed Svend Berge, and with him moved to Dodge County, where she has since resided, being one of the pioneer ladies of Vernon Township. Besides her husband, she leaves seven children to mourn her demise: Mrs. Severt Exe, of Benson Co., ND; Mrs. Andrew Dahle, of this village (Hayfield); Mrs. J. C. Heltne, Lewis, Edwin, Mrs. Lauritz Haukom and Mrs. Henry Eastlee, all residing in Vernon Township.
She was a life-long member of the West Saint Olaf church.
Mrs. Berge was highly esteemed by her neighbors and friends and her long and painful illness has given them and her family much sorrow, the end having been expected for several weeks. We express the sympathy of this community to the bereaved ones, especially to the aged husband who has been deprived of a life-long companion.
The funeral will be held Saturday, and service to be held first at the residence at eleven o'clock, and at the West Saint Olaf church at 1 o'clock. Rev. Thorson to officiate.
